Treating Headaches with Chiropractic Care

Research shows that spinal manipulation may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck. Headaches have many causes but one of the most common headaches are primary headaches, such as tension, migraine, or cluster headaches. Most primary headaches are associated with muscle tension and joint dysfunction in the neck, upper back, and scalp.

What can we do to prevent headaches?

1)     If you spend a large amount of time in one fixed position, stretch every 30 minutes.

2)     Low-impact exercise may help relieve the pain associated with primary headaches.

3)     Avoid teeth clenching and grinding. TMJ inflammation can also cause headaches.

4)     Drink enough fluid- this does not mean coffee or soda.

What chiropractic treatment can do?

Spinal manipulation of the neck and upper back can improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system. We can provide nutritional advice and postural/ergonomic advice. We can prescribe gentle exercises and stretches to help relieve recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles. Doctors of chiropractic undergo extensive training to help our patients in many different ways other than just performing spinal manipulation. You are in good hands!
